My Head Nearly Explodedby Art RoflmaoComment by jdannels: nice sharpness. a few things with the flash. When your in the studio set up you don't really need a shutter speed faster than the standard sync (1/250). If you take a photo without the strobes and the photo is dark, then you have no ambient light affecting your shot. The effective shutter speed is the duration of the flash which is around 1/10,000 of a sec. And the lower your power setting on your flash the faster the shutter speed. Take a look at Ann's tutorial for a better explanation.(involves reading, but its on the interweb so its ok :P) Hope this is a little helpful. |

Deven & Christinaby Art RoflmaoComment by Art Roflmao: Originally posted by pekesty: The catchlight in the eyes are awesome! Now that datcat mentions it, f22 does seem a bit unusual for portrait work. |

Ok - obviously and admittedly, I don't know what I'm doing with the camera settings much of the time - I just try stuff that works and I know the basics of what affects exposure. So-- f22 because anything less WAY overexposed and I can only set the shutter speed to about 250 before the timing is off with the lights and I get a black band or a complete miss. I would like to get a good flash shot at f2.8 or less - maybe the lights are a billion candlepower - whaddo I know? :/
I'm very grateful for the comments though - it tells me there is something wrong somewhere and I need to learn more if I want to get these right. THANKS! |

Deven & Christinaby Art RoflmaoComment by Ken: Very nice portrait, even with the eBay cheese setup. I like the contrast between him & her, the smile vs. the "I don't want to do this" look.

Hammer Timeby Art RoflmaoComment by citymars: Cute kid! That hammer looks so big next to him, but he seems to be holding it with confidence. The DOF really helps this be more than a snapshot. |
