Welcome to DPC. Looks like back-focus, as evident from the sharp lamp. Focus on hands and less-central compostion would be better. It's possible that your camera can't focus this closely, if so, back it up and crop in software.

I understand what you were attempting to accomplish but this composition feels slightly rushed. I believe the hands do need to have some point of focus. It goes beyond selective focus. Also, the light in the background is distracting to me. There seems to be a large amount of noise in this photograph. Nice attempt but I feel that it̢۪s not quite there.
