Definitely a good idea, and a little more setup could really make this photograph stand out. Currently, the shadows are too dark. The photo is too busy. A shallow DOF could make this work a little better. The ring should be off-centered, following the guidelines of the rule of thirds. The object in the foreground should be removed to limit unwanted distractions.

Nice use of the shells as background material, but it's actually kind of difficult to tell what the product is. It looks like a bracelet of sorts, but with glass in it, or something that distorts the stuff around/behind it. I'm also not sure what the keychain-like thing is in the foreground. I think this is a case where a bit wider view, perhaps a bit more from the top, or with the object tilted more toward the camera, might help portray your subject better.

The colours are really nice; the light glare on the pearly shell pulls my eye away from the product a little though, there's maybe too much going on in the background to keep the focus on the product.
