Interesting shot.. it's not even thanksgiving yet :) I think the exposure on this one is just a bit too long... the lights are a little blown out. A larger aperture and a faster shutter speed should reduce this... Please help support this great site by commenting on some photos each week. If you already comment, comment on a few more! The photographers really appreciate it... - setzler

Nice available light shot. I feel like the right side of the house is cut off though. DPz

Irish Moss

Comment by jimmsp:
(1) COMPOSITION -CONTENT - I look at this, and I cannot be sure what you want me to focus on. The title says âIrish Mossâ, and I donât know what that really is. When I look at the photo, I see two subjects â the two large leaves on the right, and the finer vegetation on the right. In addition, all the bright spots to the right of the leaves are distracting to me.

(2) BACKGROUND - See comment above. The photo is very busy. Lots of things to look at, and I donât think that all of them are your primary subject.

(3) CAMERA WORK -TECHNICAL â The primary areas all appear to be in focus, and properly processed. Iâm guessing that you used the on-camera flash. All the resulting bright spots are highly distracting. This may have been eliminated with more indirect lighting; though I can understand where this may have been difficult to get.

(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING - TECHNICAL - Looks pretty good to me.

(5) YOUR OPINION ON THE PHOTO - Overall, an average ,but good, photo. The positives â a unique subject photographed technically well, are balanced by the negatives â whatâs the main subject, and the multiple spotty bright reflections.

Too bad, the flash light did no justice to the unusual texture of these little plants, to much sharpening perhaps as well.

Comment by PTLParsons:
Which is the irish moss? There appears to be 3 distinctly different plants here. The score actually depends on which is it. The two big round things appear to be your subject but they don't appear to be moss. The large amount of black with a tad of green on the left as I look at it appears to be a moss but it doesj't appear as your subject in the picture. The little bit of oozy stuff on the right could possible be moss of the slimy kind but diffinitely isn't the subject, more like in the way. Right now all I see is a 4. Good focus but possibly bad crop job. This is just my opinion. Maybe others saw it differently. Sorry PTL
