gtp1164Comment by khdoss: Hello from the Critique Club!!!
Composition:
The first thing that strikes me about this shot is how centered it is. I like the view from above but if you had shifted a bit to the left or right it could have made the shot more interesting in my opinion. The colors are nice but the white seems just a touch overexposed. It is a little hard on the eyes.
The orange pistil is also a bit out of focus so it loses some detail, but its color still adds nice interest to the shot.
Background:
The background is a little tough; the brown grass is very distracting. Maybe some variation in your DOF or blurring in post processing would have made a difference in the shot.
Camera Work:
The focus is on the soft side and since you have not provided any details about what settings you used, i.e. shutter speed and aperture, it is hard to help you without this information. If you do not know how to get this information from the picture, maybe the manual or a nice DPC member will assist you. There are many DPC users with the same camera that have included this very important information with their submissions.
Post-Processing:
Having this information is very important when trying to do a critique, without it I have to guess what you have done or not done to the shot. I feel the crop is a little tight and feels claustrophobic. It would also be very helpful to know what software you use to edit you pictures.
My Opinion:
As far as the shot goes it̢۪s a nice snap shot of pretty flowers, a change of angle and lighting would make a run of the mill flower shot much more interesting. Keep trying and listen to the comments made by fellow DPC members, we all have to learn from each other and from each picture we shoot.
I hope you find these comments to be helpful and if you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me via PM.
Best of luck in your future photographic endeavors,
Karen Doss
