Ever at her post - Star Ferry Pier, Kowloonby markmulkerinComment by KDO: The look on her face says it all. Great idea to get down and shoot this at her level. Strong composition and message. Daring and creative take on this challenge. I would like to see this image a little sharper, but given all the other strengths in this photo, that seems pretty petty of me. Great shot! |

The Truth About Gradingby markmulkerinComment by pogopog: LOL... I used to be an educator of photography at a University, here in the U.S. and would only flip dimes... as a half dollar was usually too precious to put at risk of going down a heat vent! :::grin::: Okay, Truth be told...
I never did resort to the filp of a coin to "confirm" a grade.
Your picture is clever, creative and smacks at the truth...or at least the truth as to how some students think their grades are being determined. |

North by Northeastby markmulkerinComment by Arcanist: Sextant, compass or something else? Wow this thing looks so mechanical compared to a simple LL Bean compass that it must be low tech! The detail in the surface scratching screams old. I like the very tight crop and all the impurities of the subject. The 40-10 area seemed too dodged or fuzzy as did the upper 1/3 and became a bit of a distraction as I continued to study the image, probably the only thing I would consider trying to fix, but may have simply been a factor of subject's age and limitation of macro DOF. |

White man's burden or tyrant's charm ...by markmulkerinComment by undieyatch: Thanks for the pm and explaination of your title. I'll put away my dissertation about nazis and other racial supremacist advocates. The title is awkward, as phrased can mean the opposite of what you had intended, as is in my case. Of course Kipling's words "White man's burden" are interesting in a historical way, as you have pointed out, also it surely continues to be controversial. Unfortunately the title phrasing sequence more than hints at being objectionable to me. In light of how I initially and continue to see the image itself and considering your post challenge comment, I find that the idea of authoritarianism and subjugation closer to how this title/image pairing is intended to function. |
