Back Offby dartompkinsComment by Jinjit: Wonderful DOF and great lighting.
The different kinds of stripes make this a very interesting b&w picture. |

Uncropped Natural Camoflaugeby dartompkinsComment by Neil: This is great in B&W. I note that there appears to be a catchlight in his eye here but not the first, and I like that. (Edited: Removed comment about crop. Actually, I think this crop is fine, and best). Message edited by author 2005-02-07 09:52:37. |

Back Off (Color)by dartompkinsComment by Neil: I think this one works best in color. This is great, and probably can even stand a tiny bit of saturation boost, at least on my LCD. |

Mauveby dartompkinsComment by suemack: For me the focus is a little too soft. The colours on this shot seem cold to me, I'd love to see it with warmer colours.

Mauveby dartompkinsComment by Bear_Music: I'm with Brad on this one, possibly even more strongly than he is. I find the picture quite unappealing, frankly. The soft focus is the least of its problems. The oevrall murkiness of the image is offputting, The composition is static, the unintersesting dark area at the bottom takes up way too much of the photo's real estate...
This may sound harsh, but I've seen far, far better work from you so I know you can improve on this. Unless you're trying to convey murky, washed out, unbalanced and ambiguous love, of course, in which case you're right on the money :-)

Mauveby dartompkinsComment by Brad: Hi Darlene,
I'll put my 2 cents in (please don't throw anything at me..)
My first impression is a shot that was blown up too much (if that makes any sense). The soft focus effect actually looks like out of focus to me. The color appears a bit flat/lacking contrast & color depth, which would be OK if presented a little different maybe? Maybe not dead center too? A soft focus halo effect may work better with part of the rose (rear center perhaps) a bit more in focus. Hard to put my finger on it.
Do keep in mind my opinions are bit "different" though.
