One Rainy Night in Shanghaiby riotComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image assumed to meet the challenge.
I am not familiar with the poem so thanks to posthumous his additional prose has enabled me to get a better feel for your intentions. The deserted aspect and coloured glass certainly feels as though you have captured some of the essence of the poem so well done. As for the image itself, yes it is intentionally dark, the only blown highlights are not excessive and they work quite well. However the three lights in the upper foreground dominate to the detriment of the detail within the image, I think I prefer them cropped out. |

One Rainy Night in Shanghaiby riotComment by posthumous: I left you on the night I met you.
It poured two lives, painting their poses
on the windows, including sad and happy faces.
I only remember the name of your drink,
and the color of your umbrella.
The rest of you is just colored glass
I cover my eyes with. |

An interesting image that contributes well to the open challenge.
It's already been said! What an excellent study, that all powerful eye really transforms 'just another bird portrait' into another league, it dominates the image in exactly the way it should to create a menacing atmosphere of stalking. The light is excellent especially against that darker background. The detail in the feathers is awesome. It could be argued that the beak could benefit from a little more light to but this way its lethal potential is implied in a much more subtle way. I like it all just the way it is well done Eugene and congratulations on your high score and placing. |

An interesting image that meets the challenge.
I like your viewpoint but I'm not so keen on the infrared but it certainly distinguishes the shot from the normal exposure. A mono presentation would have been my preference, I do like the trees structure together with the leafy branches. Although its a long exposure I feel its let down by the softness throughout, I would expect to see more sharpness in the trunks at least. |

An interesting image that meets the challenge well.
I agree Eugene, why not give your birds the full model treatment especially if the end result is as good as it is here! Not only is there some lovely feather detail but the tip of that beak is wonderfully emphasised through the judicious placing of the light. The highlight in the eye also adds to the atmosphere and all of this against that black backdrop it all works so well. We̢۪re all really pleased you got the chance to submit this and we̢۪re also pleased you came back, keep up the good work. |
