Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge properly.

Your prediction for the entries was unfortunately cannily accurate! Your entry is a pleasing exception made all the more exceptional because of it and I̢۪m glad to see some of your commenters appreciated it too. At 1/13s you̢۪ve done well to hand-hold this with such a good result, yes there is evidence of noise but the really important point is that this is a true perspective. The inclusion of the two people interacting with the building really completes the image giving it all a sense of scale and accuracy. The blown highlights are an inevitable by-product of this difficult exposure.

So, with all that lovely glass you don̢۪t have a tilt/shift lens, could this be next on the shopping list? The score reflects how little this technique is respected here, thanks for a refreshingly true representation of what the challenge should have been about.

one of my higher scoring images, as it didn't have the fake "miniature" effect applied.

It's not a "confession", the entire point is that EVEN WITH JUST PHOTOSHOP you can create a lot of other "tilt shift" effects than the brain-dead "fake miniature city" thing. Grow some imagination.

Looks like shift used in the old fashioned way, e.g. properly. 6

Hello from the critique club

An interesting image that contributes to the challenge well

How appropriate having last weekend run a birds of prey photography workshop! Truly fits the challenge brief well in an, as you say, slightly different composition, you might try selling him the image for marketing? As opposed to a static wings folded portrait on the glove your bird is more dynamic having some wing movement. He's nicely isolated from the soft focus background with good sharp detail especially around the all-important eyes and beak. All in all a competent image, well done Eugene.

Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge.

Well what can I say Eugene! Ok you admit it yourself its neither your best nor your worst but as an ex narrowboat dweller for fifteen years your image still manages to convey the concept of the cut which I miss very much so it resonates with me. Although there are too many blown highlights there is a very effective contrast happening here with the bright water leading you straight to the object of interest the man on the bridge. The composition is good though I might have been tempted to clone the aerial out in the background and, of course, its reflection. I like your tongue in cheek sense of humour, yet another mobile finds its fitting resting place! You̢۪re absolutely right I̢۪ve not seen this piece of glass before, you have a very eclectic collection of glass I am envious of.

I really appreciate your comments but I must admit I am rather sad I seem to be the only one here at present who appears to be commenting. The reason for that is because I really appreciate the value of critique, both giving and receiving, so I will continue to make the effort, especially as long as I know it is being appreciated. Thanks a lot Eugene, keep using that wonderful glass to keep those fascinating images coming.

Too much dark too much light, not enough detail.
