This one creeps up on you. It's not striking or crisp, but the low contrast and literal dullness of the photo manages to convey the dullness of the day. I like it that you have to do a bit of work to see the tower. There's something about the random placement of lighting standards that really disturbs the serenity of the setting and I think it detracts from the photo. But if this photo had been taken by one of the great photographers of all time, this might be seen as a kind of statement about how our best intentioned and best executed attempts to control and improve our environment sometimes take an aesthetic toll.

Brr! it really evokes the chill of winter. I like the strong lines going to a vanishing point, the gnarled trees, and the ironic sign. The photo has an unpolished look and feel to it, but I've spent a couple hours looking at spit and polish and sometimes the honesty of a competently done, not overthought shot that is from the heart is refeshing.

Keep on taking photos. There's a lot of great stuff to see at this site, but sometimes the ratings promote transient tastes over lasting substance.

Keep experimenting. I find this photo completely unbearable to look at because I find the yellow smudges too distracting. And the rest of the photo is dull dull dull also boring and uninteresting. But I know there must be many other ways of using these kinds of lights in a photo. And in that sense the photo is in the vangard.
