Pattern of the Unknown! ( ...I know it DNMC)by kbhatia1967Comment by Sheryll: Wow I don't know what to think of this one. I opened it because of the title but whether it's DNMC or not this is powerful and leaves me with so many questions. I'd really like to know more about this photo. Was this some sort of trick photo and its just a reflection or something or is it actually a baby in a jar? If so was it aborted because of deformities or a still born? An undeveloped twin? Just so many questions that I'd like to know more about this babies story. Very powerful. I'm not voting in the challenge this time around so I'm not giving it a score. Just wanted to leave the comment. Please email me after the challenge. |

Pattern of the Unknown! ( ...I know it DNMC)by kbhatia1967Comment by idp: never thought i'd say it - but this is deeply offensive - particularly with the jocular title - i'm no religious obsessive (atheist) and i'm pro choice - but entering this picture via an elaborately shoehorning humorous title seems to me to show contempt for the human life involved - please understand that i am not saying that images like this should never be seen - rather that some subjects are too profoundly serious to be dealt with so lightly - perhaps this picture might be retitled as follows - "Desperately said picture of a baby born with terrible physical deformities who did not live very long if at all and was preserved in a jar for the furtherance of medical research and so that someone could enter a snapshot of him or her into a competition where it did not meet the challenge'. |

Pattern of the Unknown! ( ...I know it DNMC)by kbhatia1967Comment by xianart: a very interesting image indeed. challenging and disturbing. yes, a pattern could certainly be seen here - the very basic pattern of the circles - jar, lid, head, body, ear. but, of course, there is the larger, more evanescent pattern of life and its mysteries - how could such a perfectly formed head not finish the job on the rest of the body.
i can only imagine you're getting some pretty strongly worded comments on this, as people do seem to overeact a bit sometimes to images that are 'edgy'. well done for sticking to your guns and submitting this. i know at least one person has called for it to be withdrawn.
i'd love to see how you would edit this in advanced editing. The basic does leave it a little - grey. i'd love to see some vignetting, gaussian blur on the background, etc etc. but, of course, then it would be mine, not yours... (i did a lot of work in the medical museum during my bfa)
a sad and touching image. i can't wait to see you take it further. and to find out who you are! |
