Lipstick on glass & purple sheetsby graphicfunkComment by Curious: The lighting works really well for this image. Its soft and warm. My only suggestion would be that perhaps the lamp makes the image a little cluttered. I would have tried putting the glasses nearer where the lamp is and removed the lamp. Just a suggestion. |

Captain George Highlighted.by graphicfunkComment by Brad: Hi Daniel,
This was one of my favorite shots in this challenge. The lighting & candid pose are superb. You have captured a man's character, not his portrait.
Well Done! |

Captain George Highlighted.by graphicfunkComment by graphicfunk: There is a story behind this shot. I sailed with captain George in Maryland. He is tan brown all over with shiny skin. When he hoisted the main sail, with the sun at 3:00 o'clock and the reflected light off the sail lit his shadow area with wonderful highlights, I decided to duplicate this effect with a studio shot, hence the name Capt. George Highlighted.
I used strobes with umbrellas and then employed a fresnel spot light, I knew the spotlight would get me in trouble because some photographers do not like the face sculptured with highlights, but I was following the feel when he was on the deck and I took over 40 shots, some simply perfect but lacking the highlights. The item he leans on is his captains' jacket. This inclusion was also questionable, but I went with it anyway.
Captain George is the nicest guy. He virtually feeds everyone in the marina and his disposition is radiant and uplifting. |
