What a great way to tie in this site with your class, and a perfect concept for Authority! To your students who thought that the absence of comments was indicative of public indifference, I'd say the downfall of this image was actually a lack of communication, not the message. To me, it's not readily apparent that it's a statement about Native Americans- the subject could just as easily be any minority, or maybe teens in general.

Imagine if you had used stereotypical caricatures as your models: Native American dress, maybe face paint and redder skin (even if it means using makeup). That would make the white hand appear whiter without the need to overexpose, and you could even use a red, white and blue coat sleeve (Uncle Sam) for the hand. If the dress was apparent enough, then you could work in black and white or sepia for an Old West look (more symbolism). THEN you'd get plenty of comments and, with better lighting, maybe a ribbon.

Yes, I understand the situation is just as relevant now as 150 years ago, but it's simply harder to communicate "Indian" without some visual cues that everyone can understand. Keep trying! ;-)

Nice focus on the barbed wire. I love a good rust shot and this rust is really very colourful. I can only just count seven barbs though !

Nice leading lines, even if they don't really point us at anything. But as the subject Is the barbs in this case, I guess that's ok. The flash (or natural light, can't really tell) washed out the log on the right pretty badly, that's a bit distracting.

That last one kind of blend into the background, not knowing that I am suposed to be looking for 7 of them, I may not even notice it at all. The lighting on that post to the right of the photo is harsh, making that post stand out quite a bit. I think that the DOF is good, and focus is right where it should be. the horizontal post running through the center of the photo is distracting. I think that the color of the barbs is cool, and looks good against the color of the background. interesting take on the challenge, wish we could see that last barb better. ~Heather~

Well, let us start all over. A magical inage and one I would love on my favourites collection. The file may be floating happily in cyber space and may be receiving comments that you may never read. All good I bet.

We all fall victim to the pixel realm. I am also guilty of losing files. I certainly hope that there is a backup in DPC. If not, my full condolence. Best wishes, dan
