Parallel Universeby stephanComment by wewillexplore: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Stephan - I don't like the use of unnatural coloring to meet the challenge. I do like your composition and subject matter. I think that if the challenge is a color challenge, however, that you should endeavor to find the colors naturally. I think digital 'art' doesn't work as well on dpc - and that's what hurt your overall score.
You have done one of my 3 favorite shots on DPC (Edison's Gift) but this shot just doesn't draw us in the same way - it's cold and distant from the viewer - nothing we can relate to.
Happy shooting!

Parallel Universeby stephanComment by stephan: Hohum... "cool but too digital"... Well, I admit I'm stretching the D in DPC ;-)
Regarding the jaggies: I uploaded a different version here which should have less problems with that.
cpanaioti: It's a hue shift of the colours. I changed each channel differently.
tomzinho: Special thanks for your funny comment :)

Your right that this is a clear message, and it does have an emotive side. I won't address the things you mentioned, except to say that where the light is passing through the glass it is blue. And the edges of the glass are greenish. I like it though.
I think you may have been able to make it a bit more dramatic/mysterious/emotional by having it a touch darker. Now, I know that this is risky, because if a picture is the least bit dark, you will get 1001 comments about it. Having said that, maybe with softer lighting it wouldn't look quite so harsh. The bright light almost gives it a flat look. Where you using a diffuser or anything to soften the light?
Also, I think you could play around with the composition (though not too much, or you might cut a finger off!). Though the glass serves well to draw the eyes out from the heart, it is a bit too centered I think. Maybe you could have hinted at it being a heart by cropping some of it out of the frame, or by having the "center" of the glass somwewhere other than so close to the top of the heart. I understand that you may have been limited in your choice of placement, but these are just suggestions, that if possible, may have helped.
If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to PM me. Best to you in future challenges.

Parallel Universeby stephanComment by tomzinho: very cool - okay frodo, take the ring off . . . now!
unfortunately it seems that the photo quality suffered in transference from that universe to ours, but the picture is striking enough that it still works just fine. |

Parallel Universeby stephanComment by adine: fun hue shift. The clouds are the one anchor we have to reality, otherwise it would be too much! I enjoy looking at this. |
