Smooth as Grassby AaronComment by RedRuthann: Wonderful shot! The composition is great and the point of view really enhance this photo. One thing - it appears the focused grass area was a bit too sharpened/contrasted creating a somewhat distracting line - I think I would prefer it all slightly blurred. 8 Ruthann |

Smooth as Grassby AaronComment by sheyingshi88: Your picture is an excellent example of the role depth of field plays in a picture, and I'm not trying to be sarcastic:) You can see a narrow area in the grass that's sharp and the rest is more or less blury. If your camera allows you to adjust DOF, you might try some experiments and see the difference. I like your idea very much, and if the grass and the cat were sharp it would have been one of my favorites. |

Smooth as Grassby AaronComment by mcmurma: this is a quaint image. i really like the composition and the mood it evokes, and the use of the razor thin depth of field is interesting. i cannot offer improvement for this because it is too nice as it is. it doesn't work well for texture though, in my opinion. ~mcmurma Aesthetics...8 Meets Challenge...5 Overall...7 |

Smooth as Grassby AaronComment by karmat: this is a case where I don't like the narrow depth of field. I think the picture would be better if ALL of it were blurry. But that is my opinion, and I suspect I am in a vast minority. I like the colors. It has kinda a dreamy quality to it. karmat I'm back. I just noticed something else I liked about this picture (subsequently moving it up a vote). The position the cat is in automatically makes me look into the distance to see what it sees. I just really like this picture. |

Smooth as Grassby AaronComment by AquaGoddess12880: This picture looks out of focus, and could be a little sharper. The red tint also takes away from the picture. (4) AquaGoddess12880 |

Smooth as Grassby AaronComment by FranziskaLang: i've already seen your comments in the forum (or your webpage?) so i know the shallow DOF is kind of accidental, but if i hadn't known that, i would've probably commented as follows: the coloring is kind of unique for this kind of shot and i like it. cat and grass make good subjects for texture, but i would increase the DOF (preferably) or at least change the focus so the DOF is where the cat is. also, if it was possible to position the cat more in the picture (ROT) i would like that, too. i wonder what it's looking at? -- gr8photos (3) |
