Think the graininess of the image definitely adds the the feel of the image here. There is alot of emotion in this shot and its a shame that theres a good chance that because its not pretty it wont do aswel. great capture. (i would have liked to see his face a bit lighter but i know that the umbrella was causing the shade so out of your control.)

The graininess and color tone really help to add to the despondancy of this shot. This is an example of where blown highlights and shadows hiding details works, I think.

Image feels cramped at the top and bottom, like it needs more breathing room. I'd also crop from the right to lose the one board that runs vertically...the horizontal ones behind her lead you through the image and that one seems to create a stopping point that is uncomfortable. Processing is a bit over the top; I can't make out her features as clearly as I would like.

I'm never one to say "too dark" however with this image, I would like to have seen some of the persons face or expression. There's not enough detail to tell me what's going on. Good Luck!
