Might not have worked in the sense that you didn't get what you expected (like my stupid sunflowers thing), but it does work in terms of light and drama I think. There's a nice contrast between the eradicated areas, both highlights and shadows, that lends a lot to this photo. The tight frame or crop heightens the drama. Some texture addition or other kind of post work, like in your day one, might make this work well also.

Nice comp and superb idea. Love the colour coming from your right eye. Almost makes it look like a different colour than the other one. I actually did this yesterday but it didn't turn out quite like this at all. I didn't use makeup. Well heck, here it is. I used powered sugar.
