I like the way you have used the flat grey to make the yellow pencil stand out in this photo. I also like the diagonals. this works very well :) Now, I see some evidence of 'barrell distortion" in this photo. This is the curvature that you can see at the top and bottom of this image. The only way to correct that in an image like this is to back up a little bit with the camera... shoot the photo and then crop out the part that you want to keep :) - jmsetzler

DOF works here, though it's not overly necessary since the color is what makes the picture. I might suggest a pencil with a bit more color to it - Dixon-ticonderoga, for example, uses green lettering - this would stand out the pencil a bit more.
