Summer Homeby boyte1Comment by lisae: I love the framing of this. It makes me feel like I'm high up in a tree, in a cramped place. The colours and shapes of the twigs are really nice. You've thought a lot about the challenge topic too. It shoes a lot more insight than a lot of the photos, which don't really feature things that were "made" by anyone (unless you're religious). One of my 10s. |

Summer Homeby boyte1Comment by jimmyn4: I think some of the bottom of the photo could have been cropped. Still a nice photo with a great title. |

Summer Homeby boyte1Comment by PTLParsons: Dangerous getting high enough to photograph into this home. But you did a great job. This photo technically has it right plus to me it has interest and appeal. Wonder what kind of bird lived there, where is he/she now, how many babies did they have? Good photojournal shot in my opinion also. Should do well in this challenge. I'd give it an 8. PTL |

Summer Homeby boyte1Comment by HBunch: This is a great "untouched by man" photo. my only complaint is the blown out branches toward the bottom. Otherwise, the angle and framing/cropping are good, and the focus is great. The lighting on the subject its self is good as well. Great find. Good luck in the challenge. |

Summer Homeby boyte1Comment by Swashbuckler: Sweet shot, did you have to climb the neighboring tree? (risking your camera?) I like this shot very much. Great title. 9 Swash |

Keep the home fires burning...........by boyte1Comment by Azrifel: ~~~~Critique Club Comment~~~~
Hmm, we meet again in this weeks round of CC comments. :-)
Don't know if you like it, if not, ask a second opinion in the announcement for this week's critiques (General Discussion).
Composition (content)
Nice capture of flames and glowing wood, I think it needs a stronger background and the glow on the wood looks unnatural (I have a fireplace, a bit too purple/pink.
Background
See composition. I wonder how you could achieve a better background, it doesn't have to be special as long as it says "fireplace". In my old house we had a nice engraved black iron backplate and in this house the back is made out of grey stone with black marks on them.
Perhaps a smaller aperture and longer shutter. I shall try that out this weekend I think, I have no experiences yet to advise what to do really.
Camera Work (Technical)
Focus is good, 1 stop smaller aperture + 1/125s wouldn't hurt. Sharpness ok.
Digital Processing (technical)
The picture looks as if it was brightened or gamma corrected. That could indicate underexposure compensation. Autocontrast in PS took that brightened look away. Background became truly black and enhanced the power of the flames.
My opinion
Nice, but no impact and could be better.
