Ferry Boatby markwileyComment by streetpigeon: I especially like the straightforwardness of this image, and the bold balance of the blocky ferry on the right and the generous expanse of water on the left, linked by the sky. |

Ferry Boatby markwileyComment by Leo: There's two photos in this challenge that I particularly like. Yours is one of them. I like the context and content of this photo; it tells me a story. I like the motion/"action" of the ferry cutting through the water, in conjunction of the lull, waiting to get to the other side to continue one's trip. I like the "balance" of the photo that's contingent with the lady that's looking to the left of the frame. My top pick.
(Wonder if this is in the Seattle, WA area. I know they have a lot of ferries in that area.) |

Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie & Chevroletby markwileyComment by ubique: This is my favourite of the challenge, and by a handy stretch too. Against the depicted and merely cited patriotic iconography β the stuff of brassy celebrations, of tub-thumping and facile expression β you have juxtaposed a plainly-lovely, contemplative girl (could be a young boy I suppose; doesn't matter). And you've done it in monochrome too! Such wonderful contradictions, such absorbing counterpoint. A work of love and circumspection together. Patriotism for grown-ups, which is just what America needs at the moment. 10. Thank you.

Feeling at seaby markwileyComment by streetpigeon: Admirably simple and complex. She's deep in a corner wrapped within a featureless ocean. The limited palette contributes to the lonely mood. Very nice. |
