Comment by Leo:
Good attempt. I like it for the challenge theme. However, I think you would have achieved a more noir mood if the light was tighter on the subject. He's holding up his hand like he is being spotlighted/blinded. So if you were able to concentrate the light on his upper torso, and left the surrounding area darker, this would have been a stronger image.

Comment by yanko:
Looks good, but for me it's lacking some tension. It could use some shadow play. For example, a bright flashlight shining down on the guy or a large silhouette of the guy he's being chased by might have given the image more of an edge, IMO.

Sorry for commenting so many times. I keep noticing more.

For this one, I think you could sharpen more, but with less specific detail. To clarify, I mean that if you sharpen with Unsharp Mask (USM), use a slightly high radius, but also a higher threshold (but not too high; I usually keep it around 7-10).

I love the shadow in this one. I just think the other image has more character. If you decide to go with this one, pull up his skin tones a bit. He's Caucasian, so his skin should fall in the light grey to almost white part of the histogram.

I like the lighting on this one, but with him covering his face, I'm not sure if he's lighting a cigaretter or playing the harmonica. Do you have another where you can see more of his face?

Just wonderful, it's simple but oh, oh, so effective. My pick for a ribbon, or front page at least. Was the book good?
