I agree....shooting drummers is extremely difficult cause they are often blocked by their drums.

This was one of those shots where the drums came out so nice but yes, what I'd have given to have the drummer as passionate as some of my past drummer subjects (but in those, the lighting, environment, and blocked view hurt the photos). Here I get a better view, and I love how the lighting (green and red) played off the cymbals and drums. But yes....the drummer lacks the necessary energy.

I would have loved to have the focus a touch sharper...bu it's extremely hard to focus with that filter on. Have to do manual in extremely low-light.

Thought I think the expression and the effect plays out fairly well in the shot.
