Thanks for all the comments,
I'm not too disappointed with my place, it was only my 3rd challenge here and I learn a lot everytime I take a picture.
At least I'm happy some people liked it :)

I've come to decide that this is the best in show. Good luck!!! I would crop out that tiny hint of the king that is visible tho the left of the center pawn. It's just a tad distracting. Of course that's not possible for the rules of this competition. Just something to think about if you plan to take this image farther. I would be entering everplace that I could find. Great shot. 10

I love this one, the gentle gradation in the pawns especially attracts my eye. The kning just need something to give it that'zap' to bring it out a little more.

This just doesn't do it for me. I think it might be the weird swirly blue background with the glowing spheres. I'm also not thrilled with the arrangment of the pawns in relation to the king.

I think this would be better if your lens was centered behind the middle subjects, giving leading lines that pointed towards the king (like you see on the left row of pawns). I'm not too sure about the coloring, either. The white line under the pieces is a little distracting, and I think the background could be "punched up" a little with a more saturated blue - perhaps a bit more exposure or a levels adjustment in Photoshop.
