Cute little monsterby Gaby_GComment by KaDi: Oooh! Somebody needs a hug!
Adorable and full of emotion! What a nice portrait of a (possibly naughty?) pup! |

Oritby Gaby_GComment by Pedro: i agree that the crop is a little off on this one...it could go either way - tighter or looser - but as is seems a little constraining. I don't care if body parts are cut off, i just like to know that it's deliberate.
the black and white backdrop doesn't agree with her very well i don't think...it seems a little strong and pulls attention away from her. something a little more neutral might work better.
not trying to be overly critical, just sharing some thoughts.

Trappedby Gaby_GComment by Pedro: as usual, compositionally this is quite nice. the BW conversion is also good. where it loses points for me is in the obvious burning of the background, and the use of USM to compensate for it being slightly out of focus. The strands of hair to the right of the photo show lots of artifacts...a sign of over sharpening. next time re-shoot it instead of trying to fix it in PP ;)
a decent entry and fair score either way. I likes it.

Mad hatter meets purple zebra...by Gaby_GComment by Pedro: so you knew it wouldn't do well...yet you entered it anyway. hm. didn't we talk about this? :) and it has nothing to do with it not being over-saturated, a beautiful landscape, blah blah blah. There are plenty of examples of out of the box photos on DP that score well, so don't blame it on that.
the fact is it's a technically mediocre photograph with an atrocious border. The concept and the crop are excellent, but the blown highlights in the hat and her tongue, mixed with the marginal focus is what resulted in the poor score.
it's a great keepsake and worth a thousand smiles, but the score was about what it deserved.
something goofy happened with either the crop or the border too...not sure what made that 1 pixel line of red show up at the bottom.
either way...you said you wanted honest, so there's my honest :D
