I like the composition and the subject a lot. I also like the muted tones. The sky is a little bright. Having more tractor and less sky might have helped.

This isn't a headline or a journalistic photo. For one thing, agriculture is not, in fact, abandoned. Journalism, ideally, deals with facts. Opinions are valid in an op-ed piece but that would reallyl be stretching it. At any rate, I don't think you would find many journalist making the claim that agriculture has been abandoned. There is no human element in this photo so I can't even ignore the headline and evaluate the photo as a journalistic photo. It is a very nice still-life but it fails to meet the challenge.

Photographically, I like the angle. The cropping is a bit severe. I would have chosen to show the whole tractor. A little dodging to bring out some lights in the foreground would help to balance out the extreme lights and darks.

The plant, which is uninteresting, obscures the face of the child which is far more interesting. It is usually not a good choice to obscure the face in a portrait. If your intent is to add an air of mystery or anonymity to the subject then this would work. In a portrait of a child however it just doesn't work.

Good idea. Nice angle on the tractor. There's a cloud to the right of the rear wheel I would have editied out, I think, but I can't remeber what the rule were for this, so maybe you couldn't.
