A very well-done portrait that brings out your subjects personality.

Great pose; love the expression on his face ("...you finished yet???"). Lighting is good; his hair does kind of fade into the BG just a bit and there are a few shadows on his leg/under his chin. Maybe a bit more of a zoom into his upper body/face? His left eye also appears to be watering...you didn't make him cry, did you? LOL :o)

Comment by David.C:
Lighting: Good and generally well balanced, with a nice catchlight in the eyes. However, there are a couple of small hot spots (left elbow and upper ear, and a rather harsh shadow under the chin.
Pose: The expression conveys a bit about his character, which is a good thing; but spreading his legs around an open-backed chair was probably not the best choice for a formal portrait. Cropping just above the waist would have removed this problem.
Background: The black works well with this subject, with the exception of the hair on his head. The head needs a strong separation from the background and could have been achieved with a small wattage backlight aimed at his head.

I'd like this photo better if it was cropped about midway down the chair.

Comment by coolhar:
good shot, lots of color and texture, but I'd like the light from his left to be less harsh and a different balance (less chair and more subject, maybe cropped just below his waistline), also the top of his head blends into the background too closely and loses definition

Shadows on his leg and on his pants is a bit distracting.

The lighting works real well. I think coming in a bit closer on this one would be more advantageous. The leg on the right is cut off and then cut off at the shins. The "smirk" works well.

Comment by hopper:
Showing the whole chair put a little bit too much emphasis on his ... well ... lower area. I think a tighter crop would have worked better. Lighting looks pretty good as well as his expression ... nice

turn more to a 45 degree angle from the camera and turn his head back towards the camera, personally, I would crop above his knee to avoid the crotch shot that seems to be framed nicely by the chair :)
