Tribute to George Aultby instepsComment by CNovack: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
So I went and looked up George Ault and his work because you made me curious. Realist is what best describes this and what I see of Ault's work. The play of light and dark of black & white is very moody in this piece. One can easily place themselves in this dark alley. The mysterious beauty of the way the light illuminates just enough of the shapes and path it is still dark and deep - it makes me want to run towards the light , get out of the alley. and rush indoors where it is bright and well lit. I feel there is an element of danger (real or perceived) as that I cannot see much of anything but darkness to the left. It is unknown for we/I cannot see thus it makes one want to quicken the pace. |

(as a side question, do we have the tendency with the processing and reducing to 800 pixels and such to enhance the contrast and sharpen the images too much?) |
I think it's the game we play on DPC. I often find myself pushing sharpness and contrast to far. The 800 pixel limit definitely contributes to this practice. |
