i love this although the person is a little hard to see which makes him/her a little distracting. i really like the darkness of it. gives it a gloomy and cool feel. 9.

with the head cropped so tight, the black under the chin feels ackward. I would like to see this with the bottom cropped right against the chin to see if it feels more balanced. Love the emotion, and the lighting is cool too - great texture in the skin 7

Good lighting, sharp, quite natural face expression. Loss of focus on the lower part. Like it anyway...8

Critique Club Comment

Mr. Sje, there he is.

I thought it would be easy to critique the Portraits from this Challenge, but it isn't.
This is a good portrait and I think you can be happy with the result, but you also would like to know my vision on why it didn't ribbon I guess.
Well, off course I can only guess. So here's my best shot.
The lighting is OK, but not realy spectacular, lets say a bit flat, it's not bad, but could be improved by just a little more shadow.
The nose is a bit too highlighted for my taste and my eyes get drawn to it, away from the eyes.
The cut-off chin is also a bit distracting, the forehead is no problem, but I personally don't like cut of chins.
On my monitor the skin color also looks a bit yellow. But that off course could also be my monitor.
Ok, enough about what I don't like, on to praise you.
I think it was brave to send in a portrait of a man.
In the top 10 there are only 2 men and 8 girls. The safer bet would have been a girl.
So I salute you for your choice. The eyes are very good captured, ok, they could be a bit more bright (you can photoshop them) but they are sharp and full of detail.
So all in all I would say this is a well done portrait.
Congrats.

Peter

I think this would have been better had the crop been in portrait instead of landscape. The eyes are a great feature of this image. 5
