If you had managed to pan and thereby blur the background considerably (enough to not really see the buildings etc anymore), it would have nowhere near the same effect of "flying". Wonderful pic!!!! Would have liked to see some details re lens etc.

	Flying over Glasgow by Tallbloke Comment by Mr_Pants: Great picture, I love it. A reall exuberant feel to it. You probably could have got a slower shutter speed by stopping down, although that would perhaps have led to the background being too much in focus. The lighting's great, too.
