Very creative!! Lighting is nice and even, composition is appealing, focus is spot on. Technically, it's perfect. It's just lacking some "wow" factor for me to push it up that extra point or two.

We get so beaten down by the whole comment/critique thing that we look at our own shots and all we see are the flaws. I didn't even notice the ear thing until you mentioned it. I was busy looking at his intense look. This shot's a keeper!

I didn't even notice his ear until I read your notes - too busy looking at his cute face. I like the detail in his white fur which can't be easy to achieve in strong light.

Overall I think this is a lovely shot. Perhaps the portrait experts could weigh in here, I am wondering if you couldn't crop it more to make the cut off tip of the ear less of a problem. I think the BG and the deatil in the dog (fur) is lovely. He really stands out.
