It's the darkest place of the image, yet the focal point and all of the light areas compete (and win) for the attention.

While I really enjoy this image, I don't feel that it really conveys simplicity, as explained in the challenge decsription. There is great complexity in the range of colors, textures and shapes! I feel that perhaps you were going for simplicity in the form of a "simple life", but the description of the challenge..in part: "absence of complexity; plainness" doesn't come across to me here. Never-the-less, I do find it to be and engaging picture.
