Touched by the Evening Light by librodoComment by ericsuth: absolutely beautiful, one of my favorites of the entire site and it should've taken the blue ribbon!. I'd like to see a copy though with less sharpening, the nose is generally an area I try to avoid oversharpening on because of the large pores. Sometimes I go back and blur the pores a bit to make them less noticeable, the sharp/grain look looks fine everywhere else, but overall ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. I love the color treatment and the composition with the eye/veil/hand. |

Touched by the Evening Light by librodoComment by EddyG: Congrats on the ribbon Manny! I'm gonna go against the grain here (and I'm sure even more people will dislike me because of it), but this picture just doesn't do anything for me. I'm not sure why, since so many other people can't believe how it awesome it is. Strange! Maybe it is because I found the moirÂÂÂÂé pattern in the veil, the shiny spot on her nose and "graininess" of her skin distracting? In any event, trying to understand this discontinuity between so many others calling this photo "perfect" and me not seeing it as anything out-of-the-ordinary is something I'm gonna have to think about, because apparently I'm missing something... But in your case, I would keep up what your doing, 'cause everybody else loves it! Congrats again! |

The Purple Spirit!by librodoComment by Curious: This is a beautiful image. The lighting is ideal the depth of field is awesome. The Background works really well. The cropping and composition really enhance the subject. This is a top scorer for me. |

Towards Nirvana (An Extraordinary Goal)by librodoComment by Pedro: should have known this was you Manny. Great shot. I gave it a 9 during the challenge, and that's rare for me. Did you bump the saturation a little? The colour looks a little grainy for the D70.
well done as always.

The Soul of a Womanby librodoComment by awpollard: Greetings from the Critique Club.
Manuel, you have captured the essence of this beautiful young woman wonderfully.
You have harnessed natural beauty, elegance and mystique all together in one shot. The big dark eyes and pouting lips tell a meaningful story here. One immediately gets lost in the subjects glance. I as a viewer gather that she is questioning something, see that thoughts lay heavy on her mind. The perfect Background/DOF reinforces that feeling.
The crop, the hair, the location are all perfect to set the stage for the drama that is opening up in this shot. The soft focus on the models shoulder was well executed to further insure that the viewer is focused on the young lady's facial features.
The brighter than normal lighting on the models left is excellent as it places emphasis on the left eye and works quite well in adding to the emotion of the shot.
If there is anything that you could have possibly done to make this shot better, it might have been to reflect just a small amount of soft light on the right side of the models face. Lighting just enough to bring a bit more detail of the right eye and cheek, without making her shirt any lighter.
This, such a wonderfull capture, stands alone as an intricate portrait or could be used to set up an emotional journalistic story.
Great Jobâ€Â¦
Andy
