Comment by mykoleary:
I find the lighting to be a bit harsh, and the background to be a bit distracting.

Many random comments:
- some apples are red. These ones look kind of purple, though...
- I think the lighting is a little hard (and blue, possibly resulting in the purplish look of the apples); the rearmost ones kind of fade into the background, so there's a lack of distinction between the named subject and its framing. The apples could use a polish, too...
- Cropping the apples at the edges implies to me that there's continuation of the apple-field -- but the second row is incomplete, which doesn't bear this out. Again, lighting of the background causes the subject to fade away.
- Food photography is always tricky; if you're trying to make something look appetising (so people will like it and vote for it), I think it's important to have it be clean. Perhaps next time throw something else in for contrast

I would have washed the apples before taking the photo, the white residue detracts from the picture. Otherwise nice shot, they look good enough to eat!

For all of those who asked, yes it was taken outside. The flash darkened everything around it.

Everyone with a digital camera has done one of these. Unnatural angle.
Was this really done outside?

Very nice, but you need to get that flash softened and moved!! A frosted plastic cup or a piece of toilet paper over the falsh to soften the shadows it casts. If you can connect an external flash, that would help get it away fro the camera.
