Showjumper Vby cheekymunkyComment by PaulMdx: You were unlucky with the background, because this is very nicely focused, timed and composed. If the rider had their head a little more forward that would be a superb straight-on shot that you really don't see that often. Nice work. |

Showjumper IVby cheekymunkyComment by PaulMdx: I think this looks a little over-processed. I can't work out whether you've used NeatImage or something? I think otherwise the image is pretty strong, although I'd like to see a little more space above the rider's head. |

Showjumper IIIby cheekymunkyComment by PaulMdx: Good timing, although it's a shame you can't see the rider's face. I like the tall crop too - well chosen for this shape of image. |

Showjumper IIby cheekymunkyComment by PaulMdx: Very nice composition. You've managed to reduce b/g distraction as much as possible, which is important. You've also captured the image at a good point. It's often easy to get the horse's back legs tucked up so it looks like it doesn't have any! My only minor issue is it looks a tad over-exposed, I suspect because you didn't compensate by knocking off a 1/3 Ev. It looks like very bright weather, and it's worth doing this to keep the whites a bit less blown out. Overall, excellent though. |

The Showjumperby cheekymunkyComment by cheekymunky: Wow thanks for all the comments! I wasnt expecting all that! I know what you mean about the trees, they really bug me now. I didnt sharpen the image at all, but at the moment I took this it became really overcast & I'm not sure I've the hang of the whole metering thing, so the sky was white & I found it really distracting. So (rather crudely) I selected the sky with the magic wand, and used the "shadows/highlights" option in PS-CS and whacked up the highlights bar to bring the clouds out. I think i need a better what to achieve the same effect!.

Horses & Trap IIby cheekymunkyComment by bpickard: This is the best shot because of the equally mad expression on horse and driver. I wonder if some extra work could make it outstanding. My twopenny-worth:
1) crop the frame all round to include just the heads of the two drivers and the left horse at the top and the wheels and hoovesand some grass at the bottom.
2) selectively blur the background to give it an apparent shallower DOF
Great talent for capturing the moment...well done. Ben |

Horses & Trap IIby cheekymunkyComment by Jinjit: This one is the best re the expressions of both the riders and the horses!
I agree with Paul here about the crowds being a distraction. A shallower DOF was needed or that, but you can imitate that effect in ps if you could blur the crowd a little. It would help to bring the horses out.
I love the b&w here. I think it's so exceptional.

Horses & Trap IIIby cheekymunkyComment by bpickard: Excellent shot! Jealous for the camera's features. This is like a rather refined Ben Hur. Have you ever read H&H? I think it's also known as nag and dog. |
