LawtonLakeby DenielleComment by mcaldo: I like the original very much, lack of contrast aside, as there is a neutral quality to the background trees which is very winter-like.
In your PP you have intensified hues for both background and foreground, so both background bluish cast and foreground branches reddish hue are quite evident.
It's a way to go, but personally I find a more neutral rendition more to my taste.
Or alternatively, if you like a saturated version, move slightly the hue for branches, woods and water to make them complement each other more.
Just my 2 cents, but I have weird tastes :)
Nice scene, I'd love to live in a place like that.

LawtonLakeby DenielleComment by Yo_Spiff: Not over the top. Which is good, because many of us, myself included, have had a tendency to really overcook images when first trying out tonemapping. Let me see what I can do with it. |

Walking On Eggshellsby DenielleComment by EL-ROI: Ohhh... your a XSI user!! Well you sure ran up against the limitations of the machine here. I think you could have bumped up your ISO to 1/800 to help that shutter speed out. You could have made the noise work in your PP. Your score didn't suffer too badly due to the shake though. |

Tangledby DenielleComment by saint_crazy: Perfect example of macro shot. The picture seems natural and spontaneouse, which to me, make the shots more memorable. (Please excuse the spelling) |

DestinBridgeby DenielleComment by sjhuls: You really shouldn't shoot at 5.6 when doing landscapes, really needs to be 8 or higher. I see that you had your ISO up and the shutter speed was still pretty slow. I'm guessing it was pretty dark. So you would have need a tripod to get a really effective photo in this situation. If it was me taking this photo I would have bumped my aperture way up and put my ISO way down to 100 and gotten a really cool long exposure. As is I think it's the wrong time of day for the shot you were taking. The bridge is too dark and I can't see any detail in it. You might be able to lighten it up a bit with processing. |

DestinWavesRollingby DenielleComment by sjhuls: Pretty much what I said on the other photo applies here as well. You also have blown highlights in the waves and the sky. But with the right processing and straitening the horizon this photo could be pretty great. |

DestinCloudsWaterby DenielleComment by sjhuls: I second what was said about the horizon, Also the water needs brightening up the clouds are too bright. you have blown highlights all throughout. When doing clouds they should have some bright spots but nothing should be totally blown. When I look at this photo my eye should go toward the water but the clouds brightness distracts and I end up looking more at the clouds. Lighten up the water and darken the clouds and you should have a much better photo. |

Mac B&Wby DenielleComment by sjhuls: This one has blown highlights all across the right side of the face, that is what I notice the most more than the eyes being out of focus. I think it is fine to have one eye in focus but it should be the front eye. When you use a large aperture like 4.0 you will most likely have focus problems. I don't shoot portraits at anything above 7.1 for portraits. |

DestinWavesRollingby DenielleComment by spiritualspatula: Same thing I said with the horizon, also with regards to shooting level.
Honestly, though, there's something eerily nostalgic about this for me. It reminds me of older film photos, mostly due to the blackness of the horizon. I sorta like this as is, a semi haphazard shot of the moment, little thought given to the photo, more given to the scene and being there. Perhaps that's just me (probably is), but I do kinda like this one as is.
Technically it has several problems (horizon, blown highlights), but it's still interesting to me. |
