Great image! Usually you don't want to shoot down at kids but sometimes it works - mainly when they are looking into the camera in a somewhat candid composition. Good job and cute niece!

My only problem is the picture itself is not terrbily interesting... I also find the effect more interesting when there is some color in it as well...

Thanks for all the comments.
No, there wasn't a fence between me and the dog, but he was running past me.
The dog was near the left side of the frame, so I couldn't have centered it.
I couldn't really do much about the background, I was just lucky to have my camera ready when he came charging past.
The subject is dark, because the sky was really bright (cloudy, and approaching sunset), and that's what the camera focused on for light metering.

Cute doggie but then again im a bit bias. Unfortuantely if the rott was a bit lighter and less over contrast this would have a more impact.
