The high-key treatment doesn't do it for me, and the trees in the background make it seem cluttered. I wonder if from another agle there wasn't background clutter?

That is actually incorrect, it might have been the case in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but was not the case in the actual book. He looked at it many times.

I guess you should have voted higher ;-)

Of course, if you want to look at inaccuracies, in the book he was younger (about 20) and blond as well, but either way, it is still a very good representation of the story. I think this is very well done. I really like how you represented his 'ugliness' in the painting.
