Day 5 - The Lazy Flyby mrchhasComment by markwiley: Interesting shot. Flies are fascinating creatures.
If you are looking for ideas to improve your fly shot you might check out NiallOTuama's relatively successful fly shots in the recent Grunge and Free Study challenges:
He got in closer (I think he used extension tubes) and had a more dramatic background and lighting. But that might require a setting in which the boss is not lurking about. |

Day 5 - The Lazy Flyby mrchhasComment by mrchhas: Originally posted by jagar: Laying eggs in that carpet, did you squish it afterwards ;-) well executed. |
strangely enough my boss squished it (i'm not a big fan of squishing things that don't attack me) and the fly flattened out like a pancake, after about 10 seconds it puffed back up like Roger the Rabbit... must be the change in seasons. :D
ps it's actually a stone floor! |

Objectively Indecisiveby mrchhasComment by tome: Let me break the comment section here :) I see we were both hoping for the same thing :). I gave this an 8, I loved the intersection of the minimalistic with the ghostly statue. Great work! |

Day 4 - The San Marzanoby mrchhasComment by spiritualspatula: The vignette and vintage processing compliment the blur nicely. The frustrations of no cropping will make you better though, I swear! I've been shooting nearly straight from camera recently and the same is definitely true with any lit shots and my output has improved IMO. Again, a discussion of shutter speed/supplementary light, so don't forget that you can do some things with your pop up flash as well. Try carrying a small piece of white paper and using it as a reflector directly in front of your pop up so you can angle off of walls/ceilings. It looks silly but works decently, but you will have to set your flash power manually. Test pop at 1/1 and then adjust accordingly. |

Day 5 - The Lazy Flyby mrchhasComment by spiritualspatula: This has a cool lo-fi feel to it that I really like. Normally I'd comment on wanting more DoF and all that, but I like this as is. It's always a struggle to get DoF in low light environments, it's one of the reasons I really started getting into lighting initially.
I also like the drab colors. Perhaps a bit closer to 1:1 if possible, but then you'd also have more blur. |
