There is a second possibility for this image. Cropped down to just above the boy's head, he becomes the focus, instead of (dare I say it?) a bit of an intrusion.
I realize that you have no control over such things, and the image is still fabulous as is. Top shot, in fact.

I think your essay is not all positive. The distortions of the water sometimes move into the grotesque and frightening. If you're going to collect photos into groups, there is more pressure on you as a viewer of images, not just a creator of images. You have to be open to everything the photo is saying, good or bad, light or dark.
