Not crazy about filters made to look like paintings. But either this is a painting, or it did a really cool job on a photograph. I honestly don't know what I'm looking at

Have you thought of it like that? If you do I am sure you will see my point.

Fred, the night and the darkness are broken by the light of the morning, which we are always grateful to see.

Hiya Margaret...Just read your comment in the "Photographer's Comments".
Just wanted to explain my thinking and interpretation of the description as I had 2 other members write to me explaining how they interpreted the description and so they, like you tied it to a Dawn Breaking.
I get what you and them are saying but I still think you and and a few other people misinterpreted the description of the title properly which says:
My take is as follows:

Description
Somewhere on the continuum between whole and obliterated.

Now that together with the title Break, Breaking Broken says to me that it has to be something that is in a state between whole and obliterated in other words the physical process from being not broken right through to the state of being totally broken/destroyed/obliterated. It cannot be a Dawn Breaking as nothing is broken or destroyed in the process. A dawn breaking is just a description of the sun coming up and the light of day starting to spread. Now if the challenge did not have that specified description added then yes a dawn breaking would have been a perfect way to portray the challenge theme.
Have you thought of it like that? If you do I am sure you will see my point.
Kind regards
Fred
