A Bright Spot in the Storm by sjhulsComment by blindjustice: You certainly don't need simple flattery here on this one, but it is very good; IMHO it was the best of the challenge. the range of blues in the shot is simply fantastic; the mountain side cobalt, the cerulean sky and the ultramarine clouds; too good. the sharpness and grain of the field is special as well, congrats. |

Self Portraitby sjhulsComment by bassbone: lovely light and pose - and pretty model as well
i think it would look even more authentic with a more standard crop (8x10) |

Lovely Springtime Cloudsby sjhulsComment by Louis: Very painterly. I find that my 12-24mm Nikkor presents a vignette similar to this "banding" thing (which I don't mind at all). You can see it in my picture called "Sources" in the challenge entry row on my profile. I don't think you can get such a severe vignette with the lens you used here, so it must be in post, but I don't think it detracts too much. |

Lovely Springtime Cloudsby sjhulsComment by Bear_Music: Coulson's right: you need to run a gradient down from the top to contain this properly. You're on the right track, but you have an unnatural, vertical band right now. |

Lovely Springtime Cloudsby sjhulsComment by Garry: Something that appeared to me almost immediately is that the bright spot in the middle comes off as a very unnatural "band". Dark on the right, dark on the left and bright in the middle. To make it more natural, I'd maybe darken the clear sky on the very top in the very middle some to blend it with the skies on either side, otherwise it appears a little "forced"?
Aside from that nit-picky comment (I hope you don't mind?), I absolutely love the composition -- especially the foreground with the reeds/rushes. They add so much depth and texture to this image! |
