Welcome to my Nightmareby KelliComment by digifotojo: Years ago, there was a Freudian rumor circulating that a fear of snakes was a subconscious fear of the male genetalia. Well, I don't know if I agree with that because I've never seen a phallus w/fangs. These are obviously rattlers and they are to be avoided. As kids, we spent weekends at our parents' hunters cabin in Sinnamahoning, PA and were told adamantly to not stray too far from the cabin because we might get bit by a rattle snake. Of course, no one ever did but that was probably my only real fear of snakes. When I lived in High Point, NC, my cat cornered a Coppperhead and had its head pinned down on the ground with one paw. The neighbors, who had small children were amazed to see this and greatful that my cat was able to disable this venomous snake before one of the children encountered it. These days, the only snakes I see are the harmless garden variety, also called garter snakes, that live in rock piles as a natural habitat and come out to sun themselves when the weather is nice.
I like your closeup with the focus on the two heads. Very nice detail and color.

Welcome to my Nightmareby KelliComment by SandyP: Eeeeeee. Well, actually, they used to be my nightmare, but ever since I started spending time trying to capture this one gorgeous snake at my zoo, I have come to appreciate them so much. They are really very pretty. And some of them have very sweet expressions on their faces. I know. My pyscho-animal-loving disorder has really crossed the line, but I really like this photo :) |
