Mat Barberby hstegComment by Skip: i get an idea as to what you're after, but this doesn't quite get me there. you might want to look at bob's stuff and check out his gig mentoring thread, to get a better idea about capturing stage lighting dynamically. just my opinion, though... |

Mat Barberby hstegComment by adine: The yellow of the stage lights is fun and puts the viewer in the "concert mood." Mat's yellow shirt predominates and draws the eye away from his expressive face - perhaps a little selective burning to add some atmosphere and direct the eyes more? |

"md8SPEED"by hstegComment by stare_at_the_sun: Greetings from the Critique Club!
I feel just like I am flipping through a skateboarding magazine when I see your picture. It deff has the quality to be published in one of those "Best Photo's of the Year" issues. Anywho...on to the critique...
First off I'll start with what I think could be improved on. One of the major flaws of this image for me is the shadow of the photographer. I just find this distracts from the image overall. Other than that...there's not much I would change about your photo. The lighting is a little harsh, but there's not much you could of done about that since it was taken at night and all. Also, it usually is a general rule of thumb that if you have a person or object in motion, you want to place it at the beginning of the frame. That is to say...if you have a person running left, you want to place them on the right side of the frame. Although...I like the composition of your photo, it shows more of where he has been than where he is going. I think it works here. Which leads me to...
...what I like about your photo; I love the fisheye effect, it adds that skater "feel" to it. I like your composition, I think that the kid sitting in the background adds to the image rather than taking away form it like posted in an earlier comment. Your focus is great...especially considering how fast he was moving. The colors are wonderful...althouh I would like to see a B&W version...just for fun.
Overall fantastic picture...and I think that your score reflects this. Keep up the good work!

"md8SPEED"by hstegComment by JunieMoon: Nice stop action. Love the shadow in the background. The distortion also added to the motion of the image. The only thing I didn't like was the person sitting in the background. I think it interfered with the impact of an otherwise terrific picture. |
