This seems to be missing something or something just not quite right. It may be that you need to see what the cat is cleaning (probably a front paw) or maybe simply have her looking into the frame instead of out of the frame... Still a very nice composition and use of negative space and lighting. The shallow DOF is not terribly obvious here so it may not score all that well.

this is a very excellent composition. It seems like you fell short with the sharpness of focus though. Did you use a macro lens? If not, then maybe backing up a bit and cropping would work. also notice it is not a square on view. i think this would have been a bit more effective than the slight angle. But again, i really like the composition. -8

I'm not sure that the negative of a reflection counts as a shadow. Giving you the benefit of this point however, this is one of the best 'abstract' shots that I've seen here so far.

On a side point, why do people who submit abstracts have to point out in the title that it's an abstract?

This is a brilliant shot, but it looks more like a negative than a shadow. Any shadows seem more incidental than integral to the picture.
