Whittier Fire Burn Area ("Fire Out" + 14 months)by wbanningComment by roz: thats INSANE .. are you saying that the fire burned for over four months .. i shake my head .. thinking about the people who lived near that fire .. and the fear and worry .. i live near the bush .. and each summer .. depending on the rainfall .. i get anxious that we will be threatened by a fire coming out of the bush .. we have had three in the 25 years i have lived here when we had to be evacuated .. fortunately the fires missed us ... but one was a very near thing ..

Whittier Fire Burn Area 2 ("Fire Out" + 14 months)by wbanningComment by roz: is this about 8 months after the fire . ?
with the new growth ..
there is a beauty to fire .. altho it can be destructive ..
this is quite an impactful image with the black of the trees and the almost white of the grass .. looks like this photo could have been taken in australia .. :)
i was going to try and tell you about australias ecosystem and that some native trees need fires to procreate .. but rather than trying to explain i googled it for you .. :)
"Bushfires are an intrinsic part of Australia's environment. Natural ecosystems have evolved with fire, and the landscape, along with its biological diversity, has been shaped by both historic and recent fires. Many of Australia's native plants are fire prone and very combustible, while numerous species depend on fire to regenerate. Indigenous Australians have long used fire as a land management tool and it continues to be used to clear land for agricultural purposes and to protect properties from intense, uncontrolled fires." |

Hangin' with Anselby wbanningComment by insteps: "Imagine if Ansel had a digital camera and PS." mutters Bill as he exits the museum... Joking of course. Some of us, including myself, spend a great amount of time trying to make digital images look like silver prints. Nice to see you out viewing some art. |
