Fast moving clouds detract from this a bit in my opinion. Love the setup and color, but this feels too energetic for a serene landscape shot.
Then again, others in a more energetic mood may appreciate the blur and feeling of moving as inspiration to get up and go.... so yeah, i'll stop typing now, it's still a good shot and worthy of a good score :)

Just wanna say that for all the people commenting that this isn't panning - i hope you're saying the same thing to all the entries from the group who went on the amusement park rides, or took pictures of a motorcycle/car from a vehicle matching their speed... there's no difference between them.

Great Shot Alessandro and congrats on the blue!!

In my book it's definitely motion panning...just because it's on a Tripod and on the merry-go-round doesn't mean it isn't. The camera is still following the subject. If the camera was connected to a vehicle and followed a runner...nobody would say anything...there is no difference. Well done Alessandro...great example!

That's what I tried to explain showing the examples before. It doesn't matter - everyone can have his own opinion.

Like I said during the challenge, I didn't think this was actually a panning shot and in fact it is not. Nice shot, but background blur does not mean "panning" sorry, but that's a fact.

Those bg are real motion panning blur (the purpose of panning for subject separation) and there's nothing to be disappointed about. Again, Congrats on the blue and well deserved!!!

Thank you Alex! Rig photography is definitely one kind of photography I would like to try. I have stabilazation systems for video, but I guess I should secure the camera with an external rig.

Is this the shame shot paulbtw won a ribbon with in motion blur he clamped a camera to a kids rd about and did this shot... Nice image

I had similar idea to do the paul shot but to be fair it's not really panning as the camera is not following the subject, I did follow the subject and got hammered by the likes of Kevin and ray but it's funny how fickle the dpc voters are :)

its not motion panning though is it but a nice shot, i didnt vote in this challenge but i would have given it an 8

As I said in my original comment (in spite of giving you a 7), it is what I guessed it to be. You weren't motion panning (tracking a moving object with the camera from a fixed position). You were moving WITH the subject on the merry go round or whatever that is... so you were both "still" relative to each other.

So it's a GREAT image, but one that failed to implement the technique required. Oh well, congrats anyway on the ribbon.

Kevin I don't know why you are so sure that the camera can't move with the subject. The description of the challenge doesn't say that. Even if you search on wikipedia it says that the effects can be achieved using several techniques like dolly tracks (my main idea came from cinema that's what I do for a living). Take a look here, no one says that the camera/photographer must be stationary. In any case, thank you for giving me a 7. I received 6 votes under 4 - not a surprise considering that after 10 votes I was at 5 :)
