Escape | Imagine | Indulgeby SenayComment by sfalice: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
What a fine entry you developed for the Night Shot Challenge. Especially with the added handicap of hand-holding a fairly long exposure.
Everything seems quite clear and certainly the letters on the featured signs came through perfectly legibly. You seem to have managed some natural vignetting which adds to the mystery of the composition.
If it was mine, I might have fiddled with the cropping a bit so as to keep a viewer's interest on the main attraction. I might have cropped out that bright light at the top of the frame and also the diagonal lights at the upper left. That would intensify the impact of the lettering and entrance.
But that is just another way of looking at your perfectly fine image. Keep up the good work. I'll look forward to seeing more. |

Hello Andrew, I̢۪m Alan.
I think your second comment sums this image correctly, when you where just short of accused of a screen capture. I see in photographers comments you had a problem with your railing, but I think it fit̢۪s the inspired scene well. Improvements there are few. One being the possible use of yellow transparent plastic sheets with a cut out in the center to give it that yellowed border, and added noise in PP (legal in basic) to give it that film nor look. Overall I think this was well presented, Thank You for giving me a fun image to critique this morning..
If you have any questions on my insights please feel free to PM me.

La Voix de Dieu Résonneby SenayComment by snaffles: Greetings from the Critique Club!
A little bit of glare visible on the whatsit (bridge?) where the strings attach does tend to draw the eye. Looks like you strummed the bottom two strings, I think it adds nicely to a bokeh-ish effect. As always, there are going to be people who love or hate extreme dof. The title's quite good...and hey aren't you in the same basic area that Anvil comes from? (I'm not a metalhead but yes I've seen the movie! :-)
The 18-55 kit lens isn't a bad choice for what is essentially a macro. I am guessing you shot handheld; this would have been a good time to break out the tripod and close down the fstop and leave the shutter open. A lower ISO may have helped reduce the glare too. I would have tried a lower, and higher, pov too to add more interest to the shot as it is a bit static.
Otherwise, you finished quite well in a challenge that has all manner of unorthodox entries. Keep shooting!
Feel free to PM me with any questions,
Susan |
