Great idea and execution to match. I think your description is worth an "How did they do it" tutorial. Regarding the cluttered background, maybe if you could add a 6th picture of that bg, it wouldn't be perceived as distracting but as part of the image.

Tilt? What tilt? I think what 90% of what you're seeing is perspective convergence!
I like the dynamic in this photo, I just wish the colors were less muted, but I know this site and this is a tricky shot due to the massive amount of DR needed to capture it.
