I like the image, but I might have tried cropping not quite so tight or coaxing a bit more detail out of the tire. Scratch that. I checked it on another better calibrated monitor and the tires is more obviously a tire.

It seems to me the memoir should be about you, the photographer, as opposed to the bird, but at least you connected the title to a story. As for the photo, I have a few concerns, but you can decide whether they're worth your worrying about: the bird doesn't seem as sharp as the branches in between it and the camera, the composition feels a little unbalanced - try it with most of the left side cropped out, and the colors seem a little green.

You caught the shot, but photographically, my preference would be a much closer shot to the fireworks burst. The silhouette of the trees adds nicely to the image, but there's a lot of empty sky in this.
