I NEVER Get To Be Super Mario!by GeneralEComment by GeneralE: Originally posted by dahkota: First impressions: glad that you kept this in color. I like the composition except for the chair in the second boy's face - he has a moustache. Sharp but with a few blown spots. Interesting, but not much of a story. |
Yes, the moustache is the entire point of the composition and the title.
For those who don't know, The Mario Brothers are extraordinarily well-known characters from kid's video games -- Mario Teaches Typing is a popular piece of educational software found in many elementary schools.
The Mario Brothers are readily identified by their luxuriant black moustaches ... |

Day Into Nightby GeneralEComment by Aarleks: Nice concept - it expresses the challenge subject well. Perhaps a location that didn't have the lights in the foreground would be better. Also, getting some more exposure into the foreground might make it pop as a transitional subject more - really highlight that change from light to dark. |

Fade Outby GeneralEComment by GeneralE: Originally posted by pineapple: That is a lot of work for a (------- note to myself, complete at some future date -------) photo. |
I agree, but this is a learning site, and I was experimenting with something new. Not all experiments have to be "successful" in order to learn valuable information.
Isaac Asimov makes this point in an essay called "The Light That Failed" about the Michelson-Morely Experiment -- an experimental failure of such spectacular proportions that it won the experimenters a Nobel Prize.
Sorry, I meant to post the links for the original and a shot of the setup:
